Mr. Poe has over 21 years in the Fire Service with Las Vegas Fire & Rescue, including the last 13 years in law enforcement with Las Vegas Fire & Rescue Arson / Bomb Squad. Mr. Poe’s 21 year career has allowed him to progress from wildland firefighting to structural firefighting into fire investigations and hazardous device technician. Mr. Poe started his career as a firefighter EMT- intermediate transitioning into technical rescue, was promoted to the rank of firefighter engineer, and then promoted to Fire Investigator II with a promotion to Captain of the fire investigations bomb squad. For the last 13 years Mr. Poe has been involved in the investigation of fires and explosion origins and causes. These investigations occurred within Southern Nevada and included collaboration with the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI), Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD), City of Las Vegas Fire and Rescue, Clark County Fire Department, Henderson Fire & Police Departments and North Las Vegas Fire & Police Departments.

Mr. Poe has 13 Years of service as a Certified FBI Hazardous Device Bomb Technician with the Las Vegas Fire and Rescue, working with the FBI and ATF.

Mr. Poe is an International Association of Arson Investigators – Certified Fire Investigator, National Association of Fire Investigators – Certified Fire and Explosion Investigator, Nevada Certified Peace Officer (CAT 1) FBI and ATF Post-blast and advanced post-blast investigations, Large Vehicle Bomb Post Blast, Handgun, Patrol Rifle, and Shotgun NRA Instructor, and a Certified Instructor in the fields of fire investigation and fire suppression (Fire Service Instructor I). Mr. Poe has training in hazardous devices, fire investigations, fire education, fire suppression, and law enforcement. Additional training has been received in Hazmat, Practical Kinesics Interviewing Techniques, and Terrorism.

Mr. Poe is currently deputized as a Special Deputy – US Marshal. With this credential, Mr. Poe is heavily involved with the local FBI and ATF incidents, activities, and training events that include our department and community partners. These activities and training events are coordinated with the FBI Special Agent Bomb Technician (SABT), the local ATF Certified Explosive Specialist – Explosives Enforcement Officer (CES-EEO), and the local ATF Certified Fire Investigator (CFI).

As a part of the Las Vegas Fire & Rescue Bureau of Fire Investigations / Bomb Squad, Mr. Poe has assisted and has had a great partnership for at least the last two decades with all Federal, State, and Local partners on special details, to include venue, motorcade, route, and site sweeps.

Mr. Poe oversees the Las Vegas Fire & Rescue Bureau of Fire Investigations / Bomb Squad counter-IED (improvised explosive device) and render safe operations for Southern Nevada for special events and details in planning, coordinating, and conducting surveys and assessments on critical infrastructure assets and facilities within our respective regions to include special events and gatherings.

Mr. Poe plans and assists in and conducts outreach activities with critical infrastructure owners and operators, community groups, and faith-based organizations in support of Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) and Office of Bombing Prevention (OBP) priorities, as a current instructor of Bomb Making Awareness Program (BMAP) and assisting in the delivery of multiple IED awareness and Vehicle search procedure classes. 

Mr. Poe supports Federal, State, and Local officials responsible for planning, leading, and coordinating large events in the Las Vegas Valley. 

As a past member of Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Nevada Task Force 1, Mr. Poe has participated in Unified Area Command Groups, Joint Operations Centers, FEMA Regional Response Coordination Centers, and/or State and Local Emergency Operations Centers in response to natural or man-made incidents. 

Mr. Poe teaches and assists in the support of improvised explosive device awareness classes by coordinating training and materials for State, Local, Tribal, and Territorial partners to assist them in deterring, detecting, preventing, protecting against, and responding to improvised explosive device threats.

Mr. Poe’s fire investigations have been conducted in the City of Las Vegas and Clark County, Nevada.

Through his work experience and training received with Las Vegas Fire and Rescue, Mr. Poe has obtained investigative skills in general types of explosive investigation, origin and cause fire investigation, arson investigation, fatality fire investigations, and insurance investigations. 

Mr. Poe’s fire scene origin and cause investigation work began in 2011 with the Las Vegas Fire & Rescue Bureau of Fire Investigation / Bomb Squad. Since that time, he has conducted approximately 875 fire and explosive scene investigations including post-blast examinations. His origin and cause experience includes structures, vehicles, incendiary devices, suspicious packages and bomb response incidents.
